KVK leads awareness drive on sustainable crop residue management at SBS-SU
Ferozepur, November 14, 2025: A one-day Mobilisation Camp on “Promotion of Agricultural Mechanisation for In-Situ Management of Crop Residue” was organised at Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University (SBS-SU), Ferozepur. The event was conducted by PAU–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ferozepur, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture of the university.

Around 100 students from the Agriculture Department and Environmental Science Department participated in the programme. Dr B. S. Sekhon from KVK Ferozepur delivered an expert lecture on various paddy straw management technologies, including the Happy Seeder, Super Seeder, and Straw Cutter-cum-Spreader, as sustainable alternatives to stubble burning.
Dr Rahul Yadav, Senior Scientist at the Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET), briefed the students on ongoing research to develop cost-effective machinery such as advanced mulchers.
Addressing the camp, Dr Divya from KVK Ferozepur urged students to view pollution control as a collective responsibility and to take active roles in environmental conservation efforts.
As part of the event, several competitions—Debate, Poster Making, and Poem Recitation—were conducted on the theme “Environmental Health and Prevention of Stubble Burning”.
In Poster Making, Kirandeep and Gurjeet (B.Sc Agriculture, 4th year) secured first place, while Hardeep (B.Sc Food & Nutrition, 2nd year) and Harmandeep Kaur (B.Voc Agriculture, 2nd year) won second and third positions.
In Debate, Sneha (B.Sc Environmental Science) bagged the first prize, followed by Gagandeep Singh (B.Sc Agriculture, 3rd year) and Sahil (B.Sc Food & Nutrition, 2nd year).
In Poem Recitation, Navneet Kaur (B.Sc Agriculture, 3rd year) clinched the top spot, with Harmanpreet Kaur (B.Sc Agriculture, 4th year) and Jashandeep Kaur (B.Sc Food & Nutrition, 2nd year) finishing second and third.
Registrar Dr Gazalpreet Singh and Agriculture Department Head Dr. Rajiv Arora congratulated the participants and winners for their enthusiastic involvement. Faculty members Dr. Balpreet Kaur, Dr. Navneet Kaur, and Mr. Ranjit Singh expressed gratitude to PAU and KVK Ferozepur for organising an informative and impactful camp for the students.
