Two-day IDPD celebrated with fervour over the theme “My Ability is Stronger Than My Disability”
Ferozepur/Malerkotla, December 7, 2025: In line with these global celebrations, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) was celebrated by the Progressive Federation of the Blind – PFB - (Punjab Branch with HQ at Ferozepur) organised a vibrant two-day event in Malerkotla on December 6 and 7, to the convenience. The international programme was themed - "Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress” and “My Ability is Stronger Than My Disability.” Anil Gupta, General Secretary of the Federation, shared details of the event.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities, is observed globally on December 3, highlights the rights, dignity and achievements of persons with disabilities. Across the world, the day is marked with seminars, cultural events, policy discussions and awareness campaigns aimed at promoting inclusion and equal opportunities. This year, various international organisations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening accessibility, enhancing assistive technologies and empowering persons with disabilities to participate fully in society.
Due to the Zila Parishad elections, Viraj S. Tidke, Deputy Commissioner and Gagan Ajit Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police of Malerkotla, could not attend, but they conveyed their best wishes for the success of the programme.
The celebrations opened on December 6, 2025, with a colourful cultural evening presided over by Principal Dr Rajesh Mohan. Renowned artists, including Raj Kumar Sehgal, Sardar Iqbal Singh and Jagjit Singh, enthralled the audience with soulful ghazals by various poets. Poets Purkhav Sidhu and Jagmeet Amar also captivated listeners with their latest compositions. Dr Rajesh Mohan, who himself is visually impaired, chaired the event, added charm to the evening with his recitations of Urdu and Punjabi ghazals.
On the second day, the Federation paid tribute to its senior and longstanding leader, Pralad Bhandari. A meaningful discussion was held on the challenges faced by persons with disabilities. The day also featured musical performances by Harjeet Singh and Usha Sharma, along with several other cultural presentations.
Distinguished personalities attending the programme were honoured with mementoes and shawls in recognition of their support and contributions. The two-day celebration concluded on December 7 with great enthusiasm and participation from people with disabilities who came from various regions.
