Chandigarh, December 16, 2025: Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harmandeep Singh Hans on Monday made significant disclosures in the murder case of kabaddi promoter Rana Balachauriya, revealing that the crime was the result of a personal rivalry within the kabaddi world.
Addressing a press conference, the SSP said that apart from Rana Balachauriya, another person was injured in the firing incident and is currently undergoing treatment. Police investigations have established that the attack was executed by members of the gangs of Doni Bal and Lucky Patiala.
Police have identified the shooters as Aditya Kapoor and Karan Pathak, both residents of Amritsar. SSP Hans disclosed that Aditya Kapoor has 13 criminal cases pending against him, while Karan Pathak is facing two pending cases, highlighting their criminal backgrounds.
Dismissing speculation on social media, the SSP categorically denied any link between the murder of Rana Balachauriya and the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.
He clarified that there is no Moosewala retaliation angle in this case and that Moosewala’s former manager, Shaganpreet, has no connection to the incident.
However, SSP Hans acknowledged that during earlier investigations, Rana Balachauriya’s name had surfaced in connection with gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. Police said further investigations are underway and more arrests are likely in the coming days.
