Breaking: Gangster killed in police encounter in Rana Balachauria murder case

Mohali (Punjab), December 17, 2025: A major development has emerged in the high-profile Rana Balachauria murder case, as gangster Harpinder Singh alias Middu—who was injured during a police encounter with the S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) police—has died.
According to official sources, Middu sustained critical injuries after being hit by police bullets during the encounter. He was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Two Police Personnel Injured in Encounter
Police officials said they had received specific information about the accused hiding in the area. When the police team attempted to surround him, the accused allegedly opened fire. The police retaliated in self-defence, during which Middu was shot. During the exchange of fire, two police personnel were also injured and are currently undergoing treatment.
History-Sheeter and Wanted Accused
The deceased, Harpinder Singh alias Middu, was a resident of Naushahra Pannuan in Tarn Taran district. As per police records, he was a habitual offender and was wanted in the murder of Kabaddi promoter Rana Balachauria. Punjab Police had earlier shared details related to his arrest and encounter through official communication, and his death has now been confirmed.
