PAAWA Organises Candle March for Healthy Food in Chandigarh
Awareness Street Play by Doaba Group Students Educates Public Against Food Adulteration

Public Against Adulteration Welfare Association (PAAWA), in collaboration with Desh Bhagat University and Doaba Group of Colleges, successfully organised a Candle March today at the main market of Sector-17, Chandigarh, to promote healthy and safe food. A large number of students, senior citizens, youth and members of the general public participated enthusiastically in the march.
The Candle March was flagged off by Justice Zora Singh, former Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and Dr. Sandeep Singh, President of Desh Bhagat University, Gobindgarh. On the occasion, Dr. Surinder Kaur, Deputy Director, Health Services, Punjab, and Mr. Manjit Singh, Executive Vice Chairman, Doaba Group of Colleges, were present as special guests.
Prominent dignitaries present at the event included Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Punjab Unaided Colleges Association; Advocate Amarjit Singh, National President, PAAWA,Mr. Surjit Singh Bhatoa, National General Secretary, PAWA, Mr. Bhupinder Singh, IAS; Mr. Sukhvinderpal Singh, PCS (Retd.); Mr. Birinder Singh, Sessions Judge (Retd.); Captain Balwinder Singh; and Advocate Kulwant Singh Lahira, IRS (Retd.), along with several office bearers of PAAWA and representatives from Chandigarh and various districts.
During the programme, students of Doaba Group of Colleges presented a 10 to 15-minute awareness street play highlighting the harmful effects of food adulteration, junk food and ultra-processed food. The powerful performance effectively conveyed the serious health consequences associated with such food habits and received an overwhelming response and applause from the audience.

More than 300 people participated in the Candle March. The objective of the march was to create awareness about the growing health hazards caused by food adulteration, chemical contamination and excessive consumption of junk and ultra-processed food, leading to serious diseases such as obesity, heart ailments, infertility, kidney failure, stunted growth in children, early puberty and the increasing incidence of cancer.
The Sector-17 market was illuminated with hundreds of candles, symbolising the collective commitment of citizens towards a healthier, safer and more aware India.
At the conclusion of the event, PAAWA, Desh Bhagat University and Doaba Group of Colleges expressed gratitude to the print and electronic media and reaffirmed their commitment to continue awareness campaigns and public movements against food adulteration in the future.
