SGPC President Dhami condemns opposition to peaceful Nagar Kirtan in New Zealand; Watch Video

Amritsar / Auckland, December 21, 2025: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has expressed deep concern over the opposition to a peaceful Nagar Kirtan procession in New Zealand, terming the incident a serious challenge to global social harmony.
In a statement, Dhami said that Sikh religious traditions are rooted in peace, tolerance, and universal welfare, and any attempt to oppose or disrupt such sacred events is highly condemnable.

He urged the governments of New Zealand and India to take the matter seriously and ensure a safe and supportive environment for Sikhs to freely observe their religious practices. Emphasizing the values of multiculturalism, Dhami said that religious freedom and mutual respect are the true hallmarks of a diverse and democratic society.
The SGPC President added that incidents targeting religious processions not only hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community but also undermine the spirit of unity and coexistence that nations like New Zealand are known for.
