Big Breaking: Retired Punjab IG shoots himself; Allegedly tries to commit suicide

Chandigarh/Patiala, December 22, 2025:Former IPS officer and retired Inspector General of Police (IGP) Amar Singh Chahal allegedly shot himself at his residence in Patiala on Monday, sources said.
According to available information, Chahal, who had retired from the post of IGP, was currently living in Patiala. He sustained serious injuries from the gunshot and was immediately rushed to Paras Hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical.
Chahal is believed to have written a suicide note prior to the incident, a copy of which is reportedly in the possession of the Babushahi team. The note allegedly states that he was duped of Rs 8 crores of rupees, which pushed him into severe depression.
Police officials have initiated an investigation into the incident, while further details are awaited.
Notably, Amar Singh Chahal was among the accused in the 2015 Faridkot firing case. In February 2023, a Punjab Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by ADGP L.K. Yadav filed a chargesheet in a Faridkot court, naming several political leaders and senior police officers, including Chahal.
