Forensic report clears Atishi: Jalandhar Police registers FIR over ‘doctored’ video alleging insult to Sikh Gurus

Chandigarh, January 9, 2026 — The Jalandhar Police Commissionerate has registered an FIR against the circulation of a "doctored and edited" video of Delhi Assembly Leader of Opposition, Atishi, following a forensic report that confirmed the footage was manipulated.
The controversy erupted after a short clip was widely shared on social media, alleging that the AAP leader had made derogatory and blasphemous remarks against Sikh Gurus. However, scientific examination has now debunked these claims, revealing that the inflammatory words were never uttered.
According to a spokesperson for the Jalandhar Police, the investigation was launched following a complaint by Sh. Iqbal Singh. The police focused on a specific video clip downloaded from the social media profile of Sh. Kapil Mishra and forwarded it to the Director of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Punjab, SAS Nagar.
The forensic report, dated January 9, 2026, categorically stated that the word "Guru" was not found in the original audio. Instead, the investigation found that the video had been deliberately doctored with false captions to attribute words to Atishi that she never spoke during the assembly proceedings.
Atishi had earlier clarified that the video was a malicious edit of a discussion regarding pollution and stray dogs in the Delhi Assembly. She explained that her actual remarks—"Respect the dogs! Respect the dogs!"—directed at protesting BJP members, were subtitled with the name of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji to incite communal tension.
Following the forensic clearance, AAP leaders have intensified their demands for strict action against those responsible for creating and spreading the misinformation. The Jalandhar Police stated that they are continuing their investigation to identify all individuals involved in the deliberate tampering and circulation of the clip to ensure accountability for the attempt to disturb social harmony.
