Sound of drone leads police to recover 5.562 kg of heroin near Indo-Pak border
Ferozepur, January 9, 2026: In a major crackdown on cross-border drug smuggling, the Ferozepur police recovered 5.562 kilograms of heroin near the Indo-Pak international border, following a sound, by Mohit Dhawan, in charge of the CIA staff.
According to official information, the recovery was made on January 9, 2026, during an operation carried out by local police. Acting on specific inputs, police personnel conducted a thorough search in the border area and followed the sound of a drone, during which a suspicious packet was found concealed near the fencing.
Upon examination, the 10 packets were found to contain heroin weighing 5 kg and 562 grams, suspected to have been smuggled from across the border using drones or throwing methods. No arrests were made at the spot, and the smugglers, whose mobile lights were observed, managed to flee, taking advantage of foggy conditions and difficult terrain.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at Police Station Sadar Ferozepur, and further investigation is underway to identify the drug syndicate involved. Officials stated that efforts are being made to trace both the forward and backward linkages of the consignment.
Security agencies believe the seizure has averted a major supply of narcotics that could have reached Punjab’s youth and urban markets. Investigations are also focusing on the possible use of modern smuggling techniques, including drones, which have emerged as a growing challenge along the international border.
