Chandigarh, February 8, 2026:Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav has firmly dismissed the viral social media claims alleging the killing of “one lakh boys” in Punjab, terming them completely false and baseless.
He warned that strict legal action will be taken against those spreading such rumours to create panic and disturb public order.
Calling the reports “fake news,” the DGP said certain mischievous elements are deliberately misusing social media platforms to spread fear and disrupt peace in the state.
“No one involved in circulating false and inflammatory content will be spared,” he asserted, urging people not to believe or forward unverified information.
In a major announcement aimed at curbing gangster activity, DGP Gaurav Yadav said the Punjab Police will relaunch its special anti-gangster drive, ‘Operation Prahar’, from Monday. The operation will continue for 72 hours across the state.
The campaign will focus on dismantling gangster networks, arresting criminals, and further strengthening law and order. The DGP noted that previous phases of Operation Prahar had delivered strong results, with several hardened criminals being arrested and jailed.
Reiterating the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards crime, DGP Yadav said the Punjab government and police force will not allow any gangster or anti-social element to operate freely.
Search operations and intensified policing will be carried out in all districts to ensure public safety and peace.
