Chandigarh, February 6, 2026:The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chandigarh Zonal Unit, in coordination with the NCB Jammu Zonal Unit, has busted an interstate charas smuggling racket operating from Jammu & Kashmir to Mumbai, leading to the seizure of 6.874 kg of high-grade charas and the arrest of four accused.
Acting on specific intelligence, a joint operation was carried out on February 5, 2026. During the operation, NCB teams intercepted a bus at Bathinda Naka Road, Mandi Dabwali (Sirsa district, Haryana). The contraband was being transported under the guise of a family journey, with a husband-and-wife duo attempting to evade detection by concealing the narcotics in their luggage while travelling with minor children. The smuggling attempt was foiled due to the vigilance of NCB officers.
At the same time, the NCB Jammu Zonal Unit arrested two suppliers based in Jammu & Kashmir who were allegedly involved in supplying the seized contraband. Both accused have been placed on transit remand to Sirsa for further investigation.
An FIR has been registered under NCB Crime No. 02/2026 dated February 5, 2026, under Sections 8, 20, and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985, at Sirsa district, Haryana. Authorities said further investigation is underway to trace the complete supply chain, buyer networks, financial links, and possible syndicate connections.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, the NCB has urged the public to assist in combating narcotics-related crimes by sharing information through the MANAS National Helpline (1933).
