Delhi High Court
London, February 4: The UK Government admits its role in giving advice in 1984 Blue Star Operation in Amritsar which was of advisory nature and did not helped in any way in the actual operation to flush out militants from Darbar Sahib Complex. The UK media reports with reference of statement made by Foreign Secretary William Hague in British Parliament today, that the nature of the UK’s assistance was purely advisory, limited and provided to the Indian Government at an early stage in their planning. It was further confirmed in the inquiry report that a British Military Adviser came to India in February 1984 to give advice to Indian Intelligence Service on contingency plans for drawing up operation against the armed militants hiding in Temple Complex. The media further reports that Cabinet Secretary’s report also concludes that UK Military Advisor’s advice had limited impact on Operation Blue Star by the Indian Army In 1984 to flush out militants. The Cabinet Secretary\'s report includes an analysis by current military staff of the extent to which the actual operation in June 1984 differed from the approach recommended in February by the UK military adviser. Operation Blue Star was a ground assault, without the element of surprise, and without a helicopter-borne element,\" Hague said.
