Chandigarh, May 24, 2026: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday announced a series of welfare initiatives for the Kashyap community, including land for a Dharamshala in Kaithal, a grand statue of Maharishi Kashyap in Indri and financial support for establishing a Maharishi Kashyap Chair at Kurukshetra University.
Addressing a state-level function organised on the occasion of Maharishi Kashyap Jayanti at Sant Kabir Kutir in Chandigarh, the Chief Minister said a chowk in Indri would also be named after Maharishi Kashyap.
Paying tribute to Maharishi Kashyap, Saini described him as a great philanthropist and protector of society who guided humanity through sacred texts such as the Kashyap Samhita and Smriti Granth.
Highlighting the contribution of the Kashyap community in Indian history, the Chief Minister referred to King Nishad from the Ramayana era, Bhakt Prahlad and Bhai Himmat Singh Ji, one of the Panj Pyare of Guru Gobind Singh.
Saini described the Kashyap community as courageous, hardworking and self-respecting, adding that the community has immense potential to contribute to both social upliftment and national development. He also urged people to keep youth away from social evils, particularly drug addiction.
Taking a swipe at opposition parties, the Chief Minister said they were “issue-less” and spreading misinformation after being rejected by the public. He reiterated that the Haryana government was committed to ensuring development reaches the last person in society under the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas.”
The Chief Minister also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a strong supporter of backward classes and crediting him for granting constitutional status to the Central OBC Commission.
MLA Ram Kumar Kashyap, while addressing the gathering, said the Kashyap community had initially planned a grand celebration in Kaithal but decided to hold a smaller event in view of the fuel shortage situation caused by global conflicts. He said the decision was taken in line with appeals made by the Prime Minister and Chief Minister to conserve diesel and petrol.
Several prominent members of the Kashyap community and government officials were present at the event.
