Punjab Legal Metrology Wing collects Rs 39.58 lakh in 4 months, conducts over 8,800 inspections

Chandigarh, May 27, 2026: The Legal Metrology Wing of the Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department has recorded significant progress across multiple operational parameters during the first four months of 2026, including inspections, verifications and revenue collection through compounding fees.
According to official data, the department collected compounding fees amounting to Rs 39.58 lakh between January and April 2026. During the same period, officials carried out 8,864 inspections across the state and issued 870 challans for violations related to weights, measures and consumer protection norms.
Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak appreciated the efforts of departmental officers and encouraged them to continue working with greater dedication to strengthen consumer protection mechanisms in the state.
The Legal Metrology Wing currently operates government-owned standard laboratories at Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Patiala. New laboratories are also proposed to be established in Sirhind and Khanna.
Officials said the primary objective of the Legal Metrology Wing is to safeguard consumer interests by ensuring that goods sold in the market match the declared quantity, weight and volume.
