Gurdaspur, September 29, 2017: After being booked on rape charges, former Akali minister Sucha Singh Langah resigned from all the party posts.
In a statement issued on Friday, he also announced his resignation from the membership from the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC).
The Akali leader termed the case against him as a classic example of political vendetta as it was registered ahead of Gurdaspur Lok Sabha by-poll schedule for October 11. Langah is a prominent Akali leader of Gurdaspur district.
He said he would surrender in the court on Saturday.
Langah alleged the district police was trying to frame him in false cases to please their political bosses. The political witch hunt had started with announcement of Gurdaspur by-poll.
“I along with my party colleagues have met the DGP on 08/08 and complained against 7 SHOs who have registered more than 200 false cases against the workers and the leaders of the party,” he alleged maintaining the present case was slapped on him after he got anticipatory bail in the HC so as to keep him from campaigning in the by-poll.
