Fatehgarh Sahib, May 18, 2018: Mandi Gobindgarh Asia’s biggest steel industrial town, known as one of the most polluted town in the country will be soon converted into pollution free town, the Punjab Pollution Control Board has initiated a drive to bring the pollution to minimum feasible level. Said Krunesh Garg, Chief Environmental Engineer (CEE) of the Board, while addressing the industrialists after launching the drive here today.
He appraised the industries regarding new technologies available in the market for better control of air pollution and asked the industrialists to upgrade their Air Pollution Control Devices (APCD) accordingly. He advised them to have the drawings of the modified APCDs and upgrade their emission control system by 30the June. The Officials of PSCST also apprised the members of association regarding benefits of upgraded design for control of emissions.
He also stressed the industrialists to use PNG instead of traditional fuel. He said that first Mother Station for handling PNG is ready and the necessary permissions in this regard have been obtained. Same is supposed to be commissioned by 25th of May this year and shall handle all the other PNG stations of the area.
Mohinder Gupta, President of Induction Furnace Association and the members of other Association told that approximately 50% industries of the area have started the up-gradation work of their emission control systems after procuring upgraded design of the APCD and remaining Industries will follow the same. The industrialisms said that the collective effort made by Punjab Pollution Control Board, PSCST and members of Association will definitely help in controlling pollution in the area and up-gradation of living environment.
