S.A.S. Nagar, March 30, 2019: The first randomization of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and VVPAT was undertaken here today at the National Informatics Centre (NIC) premises in the District Administrative Complex. The exercise was undertaken under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Mrs. Gurpreet Kaur Sapra in order to conduct the Lok Sabha Polls-2019 with perfection with every detail taken care of. The EVMs and the VVPAT machines would be used in the assembly segments of Mohali, Derabassi and Kharar.
On the occasion, the Additional Deputy Commissioner cum Additional District Election Officer Mrs. Sakshi Sawhney apprised the representatives of the various political parties that in the first randomization today, the distribution of machines has been done in accordance with the electoral booths out of the 1599 ballot units, 904 control units and 961 VVPAT units. Out of these, 15 percent ballot and control units as well as 20 percent VVPAT units would be kept in reserve, assembly constituency wise. The Additional Deputy Commissioner also added that today the distribution of machines has been done constituency wise while the electoral boothwise distribution would be undertaken in the aftermath of 2nd randomization on the 4th of May. The Additional Deputy Commissioner further divulged that the machines which have undergone randomization today, have been found functioning absolutely hassle free in the first level checking.
Afterwards, the representatives of the political parties were explained in detail with regard to the mode of functioning of the EVM/VVPAT machines. During the course of mock poll conducted on the occasion, the representatives were also apprised of the methodology of casting the vote besides its counting. The political representatives expressed satisfaction pertaining to the working of EVM and VVPAT machines after casting votes through them.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Gurpreet Kaur Sapra answered the queries posed by the representatives of the political parties to their satisfaction.
