EC orders to transfer IGP Kunwar Vijay Partap , directs CS to take action against him
Chandigarh, April 8,2019: IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap has been transferred by election commission of India in violation of model code of conduct. EC has also directed Chief Secretary to take action against the officer for violating the code.
A complaint was filed against the officer in EC by Member Parliament Naresh Gujral. Singh was accused of giving politically motivated interview to a TV channel on March 18 and 19,2019. The officer has been held of violating the model code of conduct by naming few SAD leaders and showing them in bad light. However it is pertinent to mention here that Singh is a senior member of the Special Investigation Team ( SIT ) that is looking into the Kotkpura and Bargari firing incidents.
EC has further directed Chief Secretary to relieve Singh of his present charge and not indulge him in any election related process. Also, it has been directed that SIT should not indulge in any such comments till electoral process is in place.
Secretary EC, Rahul Sharma had issued these orders on April 5 and it was mentioned to send the compliance report on the orders by April 8 (Monday) till 5 pm. Copy of the orders were also marked to Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab.However there is no information regarding what action has been taken by state government on the report.Despite repeated attempts made to contact CEO and Chief Secretary Punjab over the issue, no confirmation was done.
Later, when Babushahi.com contacted Election Commission office, New Delhi at 6:10 pm, it was confirmed that the orders were sent to the Chief Secretary and EC was waiting for Punjab government's reply.
