Chandigarh, April 10, 2019: Punjab will head to the Lok Sabha polls in less than one and half month on May 19. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has gone full throttle to sensitize and register maximum eligible people as voters and the drive has been a resounding success with a large number of the residents of state registered. But in case of anybody being left out then they should register as voters before the last date as there is still some time left. As per Section 62 of the Representation of People Act, 1951 only a person who is enrolled as a voter in the Electoral roll is entitled to vote in that constituency.
While elections to the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab will see a single-phase poll on May 19, 2019, the last day for candidates to file nominations is April 29.
This was disclosed here today by Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr. S. Karuna Raju. He further said that the Election Commission requires those who want to vote to register at least 10 days before the last date for filing nominations, making deadline for registrations in Punjab April 19.
Divulging more details, the CEO said that as on 31-1-2019, Punjab has 2,03,74,375 voters. After that more than 4 lakh new voters have been registered out of which 182422 belong to 18-25 age category.
Dr. S. Karuna Raju further said that the process of registering has been simplified. People should verify their details on the voter helpline app or log on to www.nvsp.in. In case they are not enrolled as voters they can fill Form 6 online via the aap or website or at the facilitation centre in the DC, SDM and Tehsiladar's office. Citizen can also contact toll free number 1950 for any query or assistance.
He urged all those who are yet to register to do so before 19th April in order to be able to vote in this Lok Sabha Election.
