Boota Singh, a retired senior officer credited for exposing the powerful coal mafia during his service days with Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTC) is all set to restore Chandigarh's lost pristine glory. Boota Singh will be filing his nomination papers for the prestigious Chandigarh Lok Sabha Seat as an independent Candidate tomorrow on April 29.
Speaking after formally inaugurating his election office here today which he got done by a ‘Parvasi Labourer’, he said, “ Coming from a very humble background, I know the challenges and limitations underprivileged people face every day for their survival in our country.” I represent them, he asserted. Boota Singh also paid obeisance at Gurdwara Singh Sabha Dhanas before launching his campaign here.
The magnificent character of our City Beautiful has been vitiated owing to shortsighted policies of both Congress and BJP, Boota Singh says adding that incompetent people with no technical knowledge regarding the problems faced by Chandigarh residents have till now ruled here.
Armed with a blueprint for all major issues ailing Chandigarh at present, Boota says, “My only aim is public service and with my experience in handling the traffic management of Railways I would be able to positively contribute towards weeding out road congestion besides ensuring lasting solutions for other issues being faced by residents.
Our city needs a ten year plan which should be implementable with all stakeholders on board, he adds lamenting that no other candidate in fray had that technical experience leave alone the will power required to achieve this mammoth task.
With allotment of election symbol, I would hit the ground running, he says adding that massive response to his candidature had enthused him and he was looking forward to serving the residents.
Boota Singh who retired as Chief Commercial Manager Railways in 2008 besides serving in Territorial Railway Army was instrumental in taking on the Coal Mafia and had hit national headlines for his gutsy and principled stand against those anti national elements.
Reiterating that venturing into public service was a natural progression, Boota Singh, a former AAP associate says politics was an extension of his service days only adding that City Beautiful needs a trained specialist to solve the mess which was evident in all sectors surrounding the city.
An active Students' Leader, Boota earned his Masters degree in Economics from Panjab University giving voice to aspirations of youth during his school and college days. The author of renowned Punjabi book 'Chanani Da Booha' which was received warmly by Punjabi readers had established Boota Singh as a formidable writer of poems as well
