Jalandhar, May 11.2019: With the procurement of around 94% of the expected wheat in the mandis of the district, the current Rabi procurement season was heading towards a smooth end in the Jalandhar district.
Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma, while reviewing the procurement operations in a meeting here today at his residence, said that during the ongoing Rabi season, 5.50 lakh metric ton wheat was expected in the district. He said that till yet the administration has procured 516780 metric ton of the wheat in the various grain markets/ mandis of the Jalandhar, which was around 94% of the total expected produce. Mr. Sharma said that since the starting of procurement of grains in the district 516780 metric ton wheat has arrived in the mandis across the district out of which 516780 metric ton has been purchased by the various agencies.
Similarly, the Deputy Commissioner said that 513597 metric ton wheat was purchased till May 9 out of which 83% produce i.e. 423720 metric ton has been lifted so far. He said that the lifting of grains would be completed by the mid of next week. Sharma further said that so far payment worth Rs 896.09 crore has been made to the farmers.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration was firmly committed to procure and lift every single grain of farmers. He said that during the entire procurement season no farmer has claimed any sort of harassment or inconvenience in the mandis. Mr. Sharma asked the officers of procurement agencies to ensure that remaining grains were also procured in a smooth and hassle free manner.
