Jalandhar, May 15, 2019 :With around 72 hours left for the polling day in Jalandhar Parliamentary constituency, the Election Observers today asked the Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) to give final touch to the arrangements for upcoming general elections on May 19.
Presiding over a meeting with the AROs here at the District Administrative Complex, the General Observer I Samuel Anand Kumar, Police Observer Rajiv Jain, Expenditure Observers Ms Preeti Chaudhary and Amit Shukla, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal, said that all the officers must perform their duty zealously to ensure free, fair and transparent polls in the Jalandhar. They said that the AROs along with their Police counter parts must keep a strict vigil over the entire poll arrangements. They said that the polling staff must be directed to move in vehicles allotted by the administration for the safety and security of EVMs.
The Observers also said that Flying Squad Teams and Static Surveillance Teams must also be put on high vigil to ensure that no violation of Model Code of Conducts must not take place. They also asked the Police officers to tie up with the companies of the Para Military forces for holding regular flag marches in vulnerable areas. They also said that even the Flying Squad Teams and Static Surveillance Teams must also enhance their Surveillance in the vulnerable areas.
The Observers said that since Jalandhar was an expenditure sensitive constituency so special vigils must be kept on expenditure sensitive pockets in the district. They said that all out efforts need to be made to check the use of excessive money power. They said that these 72 hours were most crucial for elections so every effort must be made to ensure free and fair polls.
The Observers also said that the polling staff must also be informed that no mobile phones would be allowed in the polling booth on the polling days. They said that every effort must be made to facilitate the PWD voters coming to the polling booths. Likewise, they said that special thrust must also be laid on facilitating the poll staff on duty to perform their duty diligently.
