Chandigarh May 19, 2019 - Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday evening thanked the people of Punjab for turning out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.
According to the Election Commission, estimated 59 per cent voter turnout was recorded.
In a statement here, Badal said, "The incidents of violence and intimidation indulged in by our rivals marred what would have been a peaceful and dignified exercise of democracy."
He also expressed the confidence that the people have rejected a government that did not care for them and tried to hide behind false allegations of sacrilege since it had nothing at all to offer to people on the basis of its performance.
The SAD chief also thanked the party workers who fought government repression and Congress high handedness bravely and persistently. "I am proud of my workers. They are the body and soul of the party," he said.
