Good ascendancy and citizen-centric services always help a citizen to reach one step closer to their government. And this connectivity is engendered based upon the kind of trust the people have in their government. In the context of unparalleled personification of citizen-centric and cost-effective government services, Punjab is indubitably the preeminent example. Fulfilling the age old concept of Sewa Kendras, which was initiated once by Captain Amarinder Singh in 2005, Honourable Chief Minister of Punjab, has now been successfully executed in the state of Punjab by BLS International Services. The dream project of Sewa Kendras has been a ground-breaking step in the terrain of Punjab today, which has not only enriched the livelihood of 5,000 youths and underprivileged people of the state, but also has turned the e-governance services more effortless across 2,147Sewa Kendras spread across Punjab. The triumphant tale of Sewa Kendra sin Punjab would not have been realistic without the government support.
In Punjab, the concept of e-governance was reshaped by BLS International in the middle of August 2016. Over an year, more than 7 million footfall have already been witnessed across the Sewa Kendras, which is a sheer indication of the kind of trust the citizen of Punjab have in their government. Considering the momentum of on-going responses it is expected that in next one year, 50 percent of Punjab’s total populace will depend on these Kendras to get their various government needs done without an hassle. Being the single point-of-contact for rendering various government services, all these Sewa Kendras are set up in a close proximity of about 2-3 kilometers so that all applicants can visits these centres without consuming much time and effort. One more key attribute of Punjab Sewa Kendra is that the complete operation is performed here abiding a transparent and accountable policy, which further helps in limiting the peril of corruption in government practices for which this initiative of the current government must be applauded
Punjab Sewa Kendras serve number of applicants on day-to-day basis. People visit these Sewa Kendras for applying or renewal of various essential documents like Birth & Death Certificate, Marriage Registration, Electricity Bill Payment, Affidavit Attestation etc. Besides, there are many other integral government services as well that are catered through these Sewa Kendras including Issue of Income certificate, Sanction for social security benefits to old age, handicapped, widow, Sanction of building plans, Transfer of ownership, Caste Services (SC/BC/ OBC), Aadhar related and Passport related services, Agricultural services, Collection of Bills (BSNL and PSPCL) and other services under the Punjab Right to Services Act, 2011.
To cater these services without hassle, numbers of youth workforce are employed in these Sewa Kendras who are further trained in development of their soft skills and operating different software, IT and non-IT equipment. Furthermore, the employees working in these Sewa Kendras are also provided class-room training along with an open house discussion wherein, they are asked to share their innovative ideas for the betterment of the services. With their continual endeavour of delivering the finest services, over 65 lakh applications are reported to be accepted across 2,147 Sewa Kendras till September 2017. Not only this, with pan Punjab presence, the employees of these Kendras have become an integral part of BLS International family. Considering the ongoing success of Punjab Sewa Kendras, several states like Maharashtra, Bihar, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Orissa have also shown interest to replicate the e-governance model in future course of time. Thus, it can be said that execution of e-governance project has been a phenomenal stride in the state of Punjab.
