Chhiniwal Kalan village of Barnala district is probably the only village of Punjab where the population of buffaloes is almost half of its human population.
This lends the village an old charm of rural life.
The village has about 4000 inhabitants and the number of buffaloes is roughly put around 2000-2500.
A visit to the village also revealed that these buffaloes move around in traditional herds.
Villagers tell that they leave their buffaloes free at about 8 am and they cool themselves off in the two water ponds of the village.
The herds start back on their own to their respective homes at about 3 pm
