As a self proclaimed hardcore feminist, I believe in a lot of things. I believe that women are in no way lesser than men. I believe that our worth cannot be defined by the rules of the world. I believe that the strength within women is too profound to be belittled by the narrow minded definitions of the world.
Another thing that I believe is that the 'Women's Day' need not exist. Women don't need a day dedicated to us, we have the entire year, a whole lifetime. We work each and every day becoming a better version of ourselves. We don't need a day to acknowledge our contributions to the world or the progress we have made in the society. Each and every day should be ours, each and every moment important, because we are making a difference in this world with every breath we take.We hold the world within our grasp.
Yes, we are women but that does not mean that we need to ask for equality from the society. We are different from them and that is our strength. We should embrace our differences as they are what makes us unique. While the men have physical strength, what we possess is, in no way, lesser of a strength. Our emotional strength has the power to overcome all kinds of overwhelming conditions and circumstances and still lend our support to those who need it.
We are strong and independent and no one can deny us our true status if we possess the potential. A person of potential is respected by all for they have the strength to stand up for themselves and the skills to claim their rightful place. If you hold a position of authority, not just on professional front but on the whole, then the right kind of people, the right kind of men, will definitely acknowledge and respect you. Not just an authoritative figure but a knowledgeable person, who has acquired and accumulated knowledge and expertise will definitely be approached by all seeking that knowledge, irrespective of their gender.
As women we shouldn't condemn all men as the enemy. We shouldn't regard every male we encounter to be filled with thoughts that regard females as weak or easy targets or whatever other prejudicial beliefs come to mind. Rather, what we should do is build ourselves into someone who deserves respect and shows strong and unwavering character. The strength of our character can shine brighter than any chauvinistic mindset or evil intentions lingering in the hearts of those men that have been convinced of their gender superiority. But the fact that we female need to acknowledge is that men too are as human as we are and if we keep prejudices in our hearts, they will only act as a hindrance in our progress and will entrap us within a narrow mindset.
Coming back to the day at hand, what I believe is that we do not require a day to specify the things that should be common knowledge and a ' Women's Day' is not something that can be advertised as a feminist move. What will actually signify the upliftment of the female gender is when the need for such a day does not exist, when everyone fails to remember that the day holds any significance due to each day being ours. For now, the only thing we can do is work to make ourselves into a stronger person and wait for the point in time when the existence of such days is no longer required.
