I have read a number of times a number of heroic tales of Sikhs and the teachings of Gurus that led Sikhs follow the path of bravery over cowardice. As a follower of Sikh religion, I just grasped them and retained them as a chapter of Sikh history in my mind! ( as we are all conditioned to cram the history and ignore the real purpose of knowing it!)
Today , I am glad I could realise this stereotype attitude by just watching a 3 hour film. Kesari , it was! Though some people would not have admired it so much but I completely got drowned into it. I found myself in the 19th century while watching it. Certainly, the film was on battle of Saragarhi in which 21 Sikhs fought bravely against 10,000 invaders, but I could not refrain myself in that sphere. The movie activated all the historical teachings of the Gurus that were getting stale somewhere in my mind!
It has convinced me to inculcate those traits of unshakable courage, utmost humanity, a feeling which is something more than tolerance and hardwork irrespective of the adverse results ( even if pre-known ).
And how can I forget, my family has its own tale of heroism. Though I was not that fortunate to see them even, as I was not born then, my maternal Aunt (massi) Gurpreet Kaur(25) and her husband( masar ji) Advocate Khushdev Singh (27) { young parents of a 2-year old Khushpreet Kaur ,as they were then) and his cousin brother Gurdeep Singh (26) lost their lives in the hands of Khalistani terrorist in 1988 at Shahabad in Haryana.

But So Proud I am feeling to say that they were not killed, they were martyred fighting the terrorists and were, in fact, awarded with Shaurya Chakra for their bravery. They boldly resisted, fought and tried to hold back the terrorists and didn't retreat. In fact, her (massi's) mother-in- law Jaswant Kaur and father-in-law Dr Harnam Singh got bullet injuries but survived the attack and caught back one of the terrorists. They were also honoured with the coveted awarded.

I could feel them today around me in that movie theater. It was an unmatchable feeling. We are proud of my cousin sister Khushpreet who with the help of her grandparents grew up as a bold working young woman living a honourable family life .
But I really wish no mother is deprived of her children and no child is deprived of his/her parents and no family be deprived of their loved ones, just because of these evils that are swallowing humanity!
Peace is all I wish to prevail. Why need a battle then ? Why need a war then?
