Is India celebrating Corona?
Janata curfew: An effort to combat coronavirus spread, introduced by the Prime Minister of India,
People were urged to follow the self-imposed curfew from 7 am to 9 pm, noting that ‘social distancing” was key to breaking the chain of infection, as a number of coronaviruses cases rose to 283 after 60 new cases were detected on Saturday.
Several people on social media have come out with various theories and claimed that clapping together at 5 pm would make such a “vibration” in the atmosphere that coronavirus will be destroyed. The viral message reads playing of bells, clapping, and shank Nada etc at 5 pm by 130 crore people at the same time will create so many vibrations that the virus will lose all potency. Must for everyone.
Well, amidst of it AFWA found the viral claim to be misleading. There is no proven scientific evidence that vibrations created by collectively clapping can destroy coronavirus.
PIB FactCheck created for debunking misinformation related to government policies has tweeted saying that the vibration created by clapping will not destroy coronavirus infection. So, there is no particular ‘scientific’ logic behind it.
The motive behind one-day curfew was to implement the idea of social distancing which is the need of the hour. But what actually happened during the curfew is beyond comprehension. People were actually supposed to self-lockdown and isolate themselves and show gratitude at 5 pm, through clapping and shank Nada. People came out in gatherings beating utensils to create sound vibrations to eliminate coronavirus. But how safe it was, being so close, dancing and clapping and shouting ‘Go corona go’. Unable to understand how it's going to vanish coronavirus. People are so into the rat race, believing and following what’s being shared on social media.
People came on streets in abundance in a procession of showing this gratitude, without masks and safety measures. When each one is aware of the fact that this virus can be spread through touch and even through sneezing or cough, government advice to maintain the distance of a meter at least. But people created the atmosphere of the festival not realizing how fatal his step could be, not only for them but for each one around. How life-threatening one positive patient could be for the rest of the community.
Although India is considered to be the land of superstitions, faith, and belief. I appreciate the efforts of lockdown as it may help in fighting with this worst pandemic threatening mankind globally. Imagine if Italy ranked on 4th number in medical facilities are unable to cope up with this epidemic threat, how India ranking 145 in medical facilities will cope up? High time now Indians should realize the seriousness of the matter and instead of making memes, jokes and videos, unite and take the pledge to fight with this calamity following all the safety measures. Keeping themselves aloof within houses and not taking it as vacation or festival.
