Nature: The ultimate healer
We cannot deny the fact that human has become civilized only with the help of nature. If nature would not have been there, we would have never learnt the concept of fire, we would never know what shelter is, we would never know that we can clad ourselves by using some products from trees, we could never develop those weapons as spears and arrows and could never understand that we need water and food for survival. Nature has always been at our rescue and has helped us become what we, as human species are today, ‘The most Intelligent beings on planet Earth’.
Though, we have come a long way in terms of advancement in technology and development in almost every field but our roots still lie in nature, we still belong to nature and we cannot under estimate the power of nature. All these developments have also brought with them lot of significant side effects which we all deal with. All these advancements have increased level of stress, level of anxiety, have caused a significant increase in health problems along with the numerous benefits that we enjoy.
The common problems that people suffer from are low immunity levels, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, depression, anxiety attacks or panic attacks. All this result when we do not concentrate on maintaining our peace of mind and just keep running throughout. But nature has all the solutions though we may ignore that many times.
‘Nature Walk’ also termed as ‘Green Therapy’ means having a walk in the woods or out in nature, developing a connection with nature by feeling it very close to you. The best way to teach a child through experience is, take him out in the nature and let him feel, observe, touch, experience all the natural things around and learn. Along with learning, a walk-in nature also carries a lot of health benefits to its credit. Hiking, camping, going for a walk-in woods, listening to all those natural sounds of birds, animals, and leaves adds a lot to your health chart.
The Japanese term this as’ Shirin-Yoku’ which literally means ‘Forest Bathing’. A study from Nippon Medical School, Tokyo found that plants emit ‘Phytoncides’( Wood essential oils that plants emit to protect themselves from insects and rotting) and when humans breathe these chemicals, it increases the number of natural kill cells, a type of white blood cells in our body that help strengthening our immune system to fight infections and germs. Forest bathing reduces your blood cholesterol levels, 60 minutes hiking burn 500 calories and hiking is very healthy, nature walk helps maintain your blood pressure levels, it helps maintain your pulse rate, helps increasing the supply of oxygen in your body and of course helps in relaxing your mind and body and help you become stress free.
Nature walk is highly recommended for kids as it is very important for them to develop a good connection with nature, to learn, to experience and to develop a good immune system. It is equally recommended that all the adults should find out time to breathe out there in nature and maintain a good, healthy relation with nature because after all we are a part of this biosphere and we cannot survive or flourish until and unless we live in harmony with our nature.
“Sustainability is all about developing a harmonious relation among living beings and nature.”
