Fatehgarh Sahib fully geared up for Civic polls

Fatehgarh Sahib. January 14, 2021: The District administration is fully geared up for the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections likely to be held in the last week of February as per the program given by the State Election Commission Punjab. All the voter lists have been prepared by the Sub Divisional Magistrates-cum-Electoral Registration Officers.
The voting will be held through EVMs, which the administration have received and kept in a strong room, said Amrit Kaur Gill, District Electoral Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, while presiding over the meeting convened to review the preparations to hold elections.
She said that Additional District Electoral Officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) would be the nodal officer for these elections and the elections will be held for three Municipal Councils Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib, Mandi Gobindgarh and Bassi Pathana and one Nagar panchayat Khamano, besides this the bye election for one ward in Amloh council will also be held. She said that all the Sub Divisional Magistrates have been made Returning Officers and Tehsildars as Assistant Returning Officers .
She said that in Bassi Pathana Municipal Council 16 polling booths have been set up for 15 wards and there are a total 15614 voters and out of these 8135 are male and 7479 female voters. In the State's richest Municipal Council Mandi Gobindgarh 60 polling booths have been set up for 29 wards.
There are a total of 53012 voters out of these 27910 are male and 25101 female voters and 1 third gender voter. For Municipal Council Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib 46 polling booths have been set up for a total of 23 wards.
There are a total 44739 voters, and out of these 23318 are male and 21420 female voters and one third gender voter. Similarly for Nagar Panchayat Khaman 13 polling booths have been set up for a total of 13 wards and there are a total 7609 voters and out of these 3940 are male voters and 3667 female voters including 2 third gender voters. The bye election for ward number 12 in Amloh Municipal Council will also be held.
She said that the list of the staff available has been sought from the departments the data would be uploaded on the software of NIC.
SSP Fatehgarh Sahib Amneet Kondal said that police will make elaborate security arrangements to ensure free and fair polls. No one will be allowed to take law in his own hands. She called upon all the political parties to cooperate.
