UT completes 83% distribution of food grains under PMGKAY
Chandigarh, June 9, 2021:
The Food & Supplies Department of Chandigarh administration is distributing free food grains at 10 kg wheat per person for two months (May & June, 2021) in one go under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna (PMGKAY) to 2,66,365 registered beneficiaries under NFSA, 2013.
As per the officials, the work of distribution was started from 20.05.2021 by setting up temporary distribution centres in Community Centres or Government Schools in various locations of Chandigarh. In addition to it, the food subsidy amount for the month of May & June, 2021 has already been released to registered beneficiaries.
Nitika Pawar, Director, Food & Supplies on Wednesday visited the distribution centre at Dhanas and it was stated that despite lack of any infrastructure like fair price shops, food depots, the Administration has been able to distribute the foodgrains in various sectors without any crowd, congestion or controversy with the full corporation of the area councillors and police personnel. She further stated that the Department had completed more than 83% distribution within 19 days and leftover beneficiaries will be covered shortly with the support of the area councillors.
For covering leftover beneficiaries, the department has set up 10 Distribution Points at Village Manimajra, Ramdarbar, Daddu Majra, Dhanas, Maloya, Sector 15, Sector 22, Sector 29, Sector 37 and Sector 42 covering all the areas of Chandigarh.
The distribution is being done on the basis of mobile app based Aadhaar authentication of beneficiaries.
