Mohali MC Meeting: New fire station to be built in Sector 78; announces mayor
Development works of Rs. 21 crore in various sectors
Roads 'A' and 'B' to be cleaned mechanically wall to wall
Policy on maintenance of open spaces, policy related to taxi stands, green belts with central verges and intersections passed unanimously
Mohali, September 14, 2021:
A meeting of Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu in which important resolutions related to Mohali were passed. Senior Deputy Mayor Amrik Singh Somal and Commissioner Kamal Garg were absent in the meeting while Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi, Joint Commissioner Harjit Singh Dhillon and SE Sanjay Kanwar were present in the meeting.
In the start of the meeting 2 minute silence was observed to pay obeisance to deceased Karora Singh, father in law of Councilor Balraj Kaur Dhaliwal who passed away recently. Following this, the proceedings of the last meeting and the proceedings of the last two Finance and Contract Committee meetings were confirmed.
The meeting unanimously passed resolutions mainly on the policy of taxi stands and the policy of providing green belts for maintenance. A few councilors asked to reduce the fee of taxi vehicles and reduce the number of 10 taxis. On this occasion Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi asked for giving powers to the mayor regarding the amendment which was accepted.
Another resolution of Rs. 2.9 crore was passed in the meeting especially for the construction of fire station to be set up in Sector 78. Apart from this various development resolutions worth about Rs. 19 crore have been passed including road works, paver block works, zebra crossings, painting of center verges, laying of center lines and some other development works. All these development works are mainly of Sector 76 to 80.
A sum of Rs. 2.6 crore was earmarked for the purchase of boots, gloves, uniforms, rehris, trolleys and other items for the nearly 1000 employees to be recruited for the manual cleaning by the Mohali Municipal Corporation. This resolution was passed through table items.
In addition to this, another important resolution was also passed to outsource the work of mechanical sweeping of city roads. Under this, wall-to-wall sweeping of 'A' roads of the city as well as 'B' roads will now be done mechanically. 37 crore rupees will be spent on this work for three years.
As in the previous meeting, this time too some opposition councilors made allegations of discrimination against their wards regarding which Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu said that the work of all the wards was being done with full transparency. He said that if there is any work of a councillor in a ward, he or she can meet him directly at any time. The rest of their work will be done soon in any case.
