Jails in State to be revamped: Kaushal

Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal while presiding over a review meeting regarding fire safety audit in jails has directed the officials concerned to formulate a fire fighting scheme as per the National Building Code so as to protect the jails from fire incidents.
The Chief Secretary also directed the jail officials to strictly adhere to the fire safety norms in the jails in the next three months.
Sanjeev Kaushal said that as per the directions of Chief Minister Manohar Lal, all government buildings including Mini Secretariat, Civil Hospitals, Medical Colleges, Municipal Bodies and Jail Buildings should have all arrangements for fire prevention.
A detailed list of the necessary changes to be made in the district jails and an action plan should be prepared soon after meeting with the concerned departments, directed Kaushal.
He said that the State Government is seriously working on ensuring the arrangements for fire safety to prevent the possible fire incidents in all the Government buildings in the State. Therefore, the jails should also be equipped with fire safety equipment at the earliest, so that to prevent fire incidents.
Director General, Prisons, Muhammad Akil apprised the Chief Secretary that some of the buildings are equipped with fire safety equipment and at some places, more equipments are required.
Accordingly, through the Police Housing Corporation, the fire safety norms will be strictly implemented in all the districts within 3 months after conducting the survey.
