Chandigarh, June 24 2022:
Drug menace needs to be dealt with a ‘holistic approach’ for which the Haryana Government is taking affirmative measures. For this, the State Government will be increasing the number of drug de-addiction centers, presently 12, and soon every district will have such centers with adequate staff.
Haryana Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Rajeev Arora said this during a seminar on ‘Preventing Drug Abuse’ held on the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as the Chief Guest here today after lighting the traditional lamp.
Arora shared that the Chief Minister Manohar Lal and Home Minister Anil Vij are closely monitoring the steps being taken to control the drug menace.
He added that the State Government is already working to devise a mechanism so as to curtail the drug menace under the guidance of Chief Minister and Home Minister.
He further said that the government departments like the Home, Health, Social Justice needs to work along with print and electronic media and civil society so as to curtail the penetration of drugs among the youth of the society.
Arora added that Haryana Narcotic Control Bureau has also been constituted by the State Government to break the supply chain of drugs and nab the drugs peddlers.
He elaborated that the drug menace can be curtailed through multi-pronged approach as a drug-addict also needs psychological and emotional support post de-addiction.
Emphasizing on the role of NGOs and civil society, Arora said that ultimately the NGOs and society have a pivotal role to play in this regard. Stating that the youth must be dissuaded from drug use than falling prey to peer pressure he added that more awareness should be spread about the issue and the news related to such cases should also be dealt with sensitively.
