Ludhiana: Adm starts drive to clean water tanks in government schools

Ludhiana, July 23, 2022: To ensure the supply of potable and clean drinking water to the students of government schools, the district administration launched a special campaign to clean water tanks in the government schools of the district.
On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik, a three-member team comprising District Education Officer Jaswinder Kaur, Epidemiologist Dr. Ramanpreet Kaur and Executive Engineer (water supply and sanitation) Mandeep Singh had been constituted to ensure regular sampling of the drinking water in the government schools.
Divulging further details, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Amit Kumar Panchal said that the drive had been undertaken with the active participation of school management committees, panchayats, and the health department out on war-footing to ensure supply of the potable drinking water to the students.
He said that the health department was asked to immediately inform the administration in case of any sample failed the purity test so that action could be taken instantly for ensuring clean drinking water to protect the health of schools and others.
Further, he asked education department officials to fix the responsibility of principals to ensure the cleaning of water tanks in their schools on a routine basis besides conducting random checking by DEOs in the schools.
Panchal also directed the water supply and sanitation department to inspect schools to verify any kind of leakage in water supply lines and would assist the school authorities in case of any help they need.
He said that ensuring safe drinking water to the students, it would go a long way in the prevention of communicable diseases.
The ADC said that the committee would also submit its report to the administration in this regard.
