Patiala, August 6, 2022:
Upgraded Cyber Crime Cell (CITSU) Patiala and newly launched 24X7 Cyber Help Desk was inaugurated today on 06.08.2022 in the presence of Ajitpal Singh Kohli MLA Patiala, Dr. Balbir Singh MLA (Rural), Mukhwinder Singh Chhina IGP Patiala Range, Patiala, Deepak Pareek IPS, SSP Patiala, Dharam Pal DSP Cyber Cell, Patiala and SI Pritpal Singh In-Charge Cyber Crime Cell Patiala.
Deepak Pareek, SSP Patiala briefed during a press conference that cases of cyber crime and online frauds are increasing with the advancement & availability of technology. Some of the most common online frauds include OTP frauds, OLX frauds, insurance frauds, Paytm/G-Pay frauds, fake social media accounts and cyber stalking. In many cases immediate reporting of cyber crime to Police/Banks helps in getting the money back by blocking the transactions/accounts of the cyber criminal. Time is of utmost importance in case of the reporting of cyber crimes. In their endeavor to serve citizens better and to provide a more professional interface to the victims of cybercrimes, Patiala Police have modernized and remodeled their cyber cell. An important step in this regard is the launch of a 24x7 (day-night) cyber helpdesk window.
In around 60% of cyber fraud cases, it has been observed that the victims of cyber fraud prefer to meet the police officer physically, to better explain their complaint and to feel assured that timely action will be taken. The cyber help desk window will be manned by experts from the cyber cell who will receive the complaints of the citizens and initiate immediate action. Timely action on the complaint ensures a higher chance of the reversal of the fraudulent transaction and return of the lost money to the victim. The complainant can come to the cyber helpdesk window anytime and can enquire about the status of his/her complaint as well.
Moreover, in cases where the victims of cyber fraud are not able to draft a complaint due to illiteracy or lack of money, the experts at the cyber help desk will assist them in drafting the complaints free of cost and will also provide a copy of the complaint to them. This will also reduce the number of stages that a complaint must go through before ultimately reaching the cyber cell. The cyber cell staff has been trained to be professional and courteous to the complainants and the victims of cyber crimes. The renovated cyber cell will provide a comfortable environment and professional treatment to the complainants.
During the period from 01.05.2022 to 01.08.2022, Cyber Crime Cell, Patiala disposed of 927 applications out of total 1131 applications, FIR have been registered in 15 applications and in 49 applications of money fraud a total amount of 32,76,426/- ( Thirty Six Lac, Seventy Six Thousand rupees were recovered and returned and 112 mobiles were recovered and returned to the applicants.
