Jalandhar, August 7, 2022: In a bid to check adulteration in edible oil, the health department has launched a special drive in the district which will continue till August 14, 2022.
Divulging the details, District Health Officer Dr. Reema Jammu said that a total of six samples of edible oil have been taken since the inception of this drive and more samples would be collected in the coming days.
She said that as per directions issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), this drive was launched on August 1, across states.
The DHO further added that the campaign aimed at curtailing adulteration in edible oil besides ensuring sale of quality products in the market having Agmark certification.
Dr. Reema also said that the testing of these samples would lead to identification of presence of trans-fatty acids in edible oil and doing away with the sale of unsafe products.
The checking drive is being monitored on a regular basis so that preventive measures could be taken against the production and sale of unsafe, superiors, and unhygienic food oils, she said. She mentioned that during the sampling and checking drive the managements of hotels, restaurants and other food chains are being asked not to use the edible oils repeatedly as it can pose serious health risks to consumers.
The District Health Officer also said that the adulteration of food items would not be spared at any cost and asserted that stern action would be taken against the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
She reiterated her commitment to ensuring sale of safe, hygienic and quality food products in the district and solicited people’s support in this task.
