On International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, Ludhiana students propose clean air solutions to Municipal Commissioner

Ludhiana, September 7, 2024: On the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, 20 student representatives from over ten government schools of Ludhiana presented their recommendations to improve the air quality of the city before the Municipal Commissioner, Sandeep Rishi.
During the event, each school was given 10 minutes to submit its proposals, which were based on the National Clean Air Action Plan.
The recommendations included making carpooling compulsory to schools, increasing green cover, promoting electric vehicles and raising public awareness on air quality issues.
Ludhiana Municipal Commissioner Sandeep Rishi responded positively to the students' presentations and said, "The enthusiasm and innovative ideas presented by these young students are truly commendable. It is encouraging to see our youth playing an active role in shaping a cleaner, healthier future for Ludhiana. Their recommendations will be seriously considered in our ongoing efforts to tackle air pollution in the city."
Nakul Tank from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Cemetery Road, said, “We are proud to have had the opportunity to present our views before Commissioner Sir. Our aim is to help make Ludhiana a clean and healthy city for all. We hope our suggestions will be implemented and a concrete impact will be seen.”
Jaswinder Singh, Principal, Indrapuri School of Eminence, said, “Our students have shown exceptional initiative and dedication in developing these proposals. Their participation in this program reflects their commitment to bringing about meaningful change in their community. We are proud to support their efforts to bring about positive environmental change.”
Aakash Gupta, Ludhiana City Coordinator, Clean Air Punjab, commented, “Today’s event showcased the powerful role youth play in driving environmental change. We are proud to support these student leaders who have stepped up to propose practical and impactful solutions for clean air in Ludhiana.”The event underscored the important role of community participation, especially youth, in tackling air quality issues.
The students' recommendations have laid the foundation for future efforts to make Ludhiana's air clean and safe for all. The initiative was part of the Young Champions for Clean Air program supported by Clean Air Punjab.
