Jalandhar DC urges farmers to end stubble burning practices, promises government support
Visits stubble burning hotspots in Nakodar, calls for active participation in environmental protection

Nakodar (Jalandhar), September 13, 2024: In a bid to curb the rising cases of stubble burning, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal visited three villages—Chak Kalan, Kang Sahbu, and Sidhwan—in Nakodar Sub Division, urging farmers to actively participate in environmental protection by shunning stubble burning.
Interacting with farmers in these hotspots, Dr. Aggarwal emphasized the Punjab Government’s commitment, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, to assist farmers in adopting sustainable farming practices.
During his visit, he highlighted the availability of modern farming machinery, seeds, advanced technologies, weather forecasts, and guidance on pesticide use provided by the government to help farmers manage crop residue without burning. He stressed the urgent need for crop diversification to conserve groundwater and appealed to farmers to adopt crop residue management techniques, assuring them that resources were ample.
To encourage better practices, Dr. Aggarwal announced the "Vatavaran de Rakhe" award, which will honor panchayats and individual farmers who adopt sustainable methods. Panchayats with zero stubble burning will receive development work worth Rs. One lakh, while outstanding individual farmers will be recognized at the district-level Republic Day event.
He directed officials to closely monitor farm fire cases, ensuring accurate reporting and verification.
The DC reiterated the collective responsibility to curb stubble burning, emphasizing that every farmer’s effort is crucial in protecting the environment. The visit reflects the administration’s proactive approach to tackling this environmental challenge head-on.
Meanwhile, he directed the officials concerned to keep a close tab over farm fire cases while ensuring proper reporting and physical verification in each case.He mentioned that it was our collective responsibility to curb this menace.
