SAS Nagar, September 29, 2024: Going strict on checking the illegal influx of paddy from neighboring states in the district Mandis, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain has urged the District Police for strict vigil by establishing special interstate border check-points on Jharmari Barrier, Bus Stand Handesra, Siswan T Point, Sekhon Banquet Dhakoli, Behra Mod Derabassi, Ramgarh-Daffarpur road Mubarikpur.
She also ordered the district Mandi Officials and Market Committee Secretaries to keep monitoring the arrival of other state produce in local mandis.
While reviewing the procurement arrangements, it was brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner that Mandis adjoining the Haryana border tend to face glut thereby hampering the procurement process due to the unprecedented arrival of crops from other states via local commission agents or other arrangements.
It was informed that local civil administration makes arrangements for estimated arrivals of produce from villages under its jurisdiction but arrangements tend to fall short due to the illegal sale of paddy from neighbouring states in those mandis.
Taking strict note of the transgression, the Deputy Commissioner directed police officials to establish special interstate border checkpoints so that ‘other State produce’ would not be let into the district. Besides, she also urged the district police to deploy police personnel in the Mandis in the wake of the Kharif Marketing Season to ensure the smooth sailing of procurement in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner said that in the wake of the paddy procurement, the procurement centres have been set up at Kahrar, Rurki, Daun Majra, Bhago Majra, Saneta, Kurali, Khijrabad, Derabassi, Amlala, Samgauli, Lalru, Tiwana, Tsambli, Jarrot and Banur. Last year, the paddy arrival was recorded at 215220 MT in the district Mandis.
