PAU–KVK Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Organized Awareness Campaign Against Paddy Residue Burning for college students

Nawanshahr November 22,2025- Under the ongoing efforts to curb the burning of paddy residue, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Langroya, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, organized an awareness programme at D.A.N. College of Education for Women, here.A total of 105 students participated in the event, which aimed at sensitizing the youth about environmentally sustainable crop residue management (CRM). The programme was held under the guidance of Dr. Pardeep Kumar, Deputy Director, KVK, Langroya, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.
The programme was graced by Chief Guest Vinod Bhardwaj, Vice President, CMC, along with Karuna Oberoi, Officiating Principal, D.A.N. College of Education, Dr. Puneet Aneja, Principal, R.K. Arya College, Dr. S.K. Bruta, Vice President, and Sh. Susheel Puri, Secretary.Dr. Vikas Kumar welcomed the KVK team and appreciated their efforts in organizing the awareness camp on CRM.
During the technical session, Dr. Pardeep Kumar highlighted the harmful effects of paddy residue burning and discussed sustainable residue management techniques. He guided the students on the innovative and beneficial uses of paddy straw and emphasized how retaining residues improves soil nutrition, supports soil microorganisms, and enhances long-term soil health. He also provided information on the latest CRM machinery such as balers, SMART seeders, surface seeders, and super seeders, urging students to play a proactive role in spreading awareness in their communities.
Dr. Rajinder Kaur, Assistant Professor (Home Science), shared details of the various CRM activities undertaken by KVK. She also interacted with the students about environmental conservation through adopting healthy practices, the importance of nutrition for all age groups, and the need to adopt kitchen gardening for improving family health.
To encourage student involvement, KVK Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar organized speech declamation and debate competitions on the theme “Crop Residue Management and Conservation of Environment.” These activities were conducted under the supervision of KVK experts and the college faculty. Students participated with enthusiasm, and the winners were acknowledged and awarded.
In the concluding session, Rajni Bala and Karuna Oberoi (Officiating Principal) expressed gratitude to the experts from KVK and Meenakashi Grover, Dr. Kavita, Ramandeep Kaur, Sanjay Chandwani, Jaswinder Singh and Simmi faculty of D.A.N College associated with this activity.
