World No Tobacco Day: Under campaign against public smoking, 15 challans issued in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, May 23, 2022: Only 15 challans were issued under Tobacco Act in Ferozepur cantonment area by Dr.Ravi Ram Sarn Khera, Designated Officer (Food Safety) and Harvinder Singh Food Safety Officer.
Preventing violation of rules is also a big challenge for the department, as the district administration had banned the sale of tobacco around 100 yards of educational complexes as well.
On this occasion, FSO appealed to the shopkeepers to pay special attention to cleanliness and also advised them to display boards in shops of statutory warning and no sale for youths below 18 years of age.
Speaking about the side effects of the use of tobacco, he said, around 80 percent of people are victims of mouth cancer due to the consumption of tobacco besides having an effect on throat, food pipe, lungs, stomach, etc. as it contains nicotine and other poisonous toxins.
FSO further said frequent use of tobacco also causes heart attack, vascular disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease, diabetes, etc., which can lead to impotence and decreased fertility in men. Tobacco use during pregnancy gives birth to a low birth weight baby.
He appealed to the people to refrain from using tobacco and at the same time to tell others about its ill effects.
