Health Dept observes Mop-up Day as follow up of National Deworming Day

Ferozepur, August 17, 2022: The Health Department, on Wednesday, observed Mop-up Day as following of National Deworming Day so that the children who could not be dewormed on National Deworming Day (NDD) due to sickness or absenteeism should be dewormed on Mop-up Day.
Research shows deworming helps in physical and cognitive development of children and Albendazone is safe and beneficial for all. It has been used globally by millions of people to treat worm infections.
The Mop-up Day was as programme of National day of Freed from stomach works was celebrated at Anganwadi Centres of Ferozepur district by the Department of Women and child Development under the tutelage of Rattandeep Sadhu District Programme Officer.
DPO said, with the support of the Health Department, every year August 10 is celebrated as National Deworming Day and August 17 as Mop-up Day. This year too National De Warming Day was celebrated on 10th August and Mopup Day on 17th August in all the Anganwadi Centers of Block Ferozepur in which the general public was put wiser about stomach worms in children, symptoms and prevention thereof.
She said, in this camp, the children from 1 year to 19 years were given Albendazole tablets, free of cost. Symptoms of stomach worms in children include anaemia, malnutrition, weakness, restlessness, lack of appetite, fatigue, weight loss etc. An easy and important way to prevent stomach worms is to give the children Albendazole tablets.
The visiting health department team said, the benefits of deworming are - it controls anaemia, benefits the community by reducing worms in the environment, improves nutritional uptake, helps improve work potential and livelihood, concentration., to improve capacity to learn, attendance at school.
