Punjab's Praneet Kaur and Simranjit Kaur clinch five medals in Archery Asia Cup

Chandigarh, February 26, 2024: Continuing the impressive performance demonstrated by Punjab's athletes at the international level, players from the region have achieved tremendous success in archery, hockey, and badminton.
Two archers from Punjab, Simranjit Kaur and Praneet Kaur, clinched three gold and two silver medals in the Asia Cup of Archery held in Baghdad, Iraq. Simranjit Kaur, from Abohar, secured two gold medals in the mixed team and women's recurve events, along with a silver medal in the individual category.
Similarly, Praneet Kaur from Mansa claimed gold in the individual category and silver in the team category of the compound event.
In the Hockey game India beat Ireland 4-0 in the last match of the Indian leg in the Pro Hockey League. In this league, the Indian team has taken the third place with 15 points by playing 8 matches so far.
Now the Indian team will play the remaining eight matches of the European leg in May-June. The team includes 10 players from Punjab including captain Harmanpreet Singh.
In Badminton, Ludhiana's Dhruv Kapila along with his partner Arjuna won the men's doubles title of the Uganda International Challenge.
Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer congratulated the Punjabi players on their victories and attributed their success to their hard work and the guidance provided by their coaches. He said that the tangible results are a testament to the efficacy of the new sports policy, crafted under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Maan. Additionally, he highlighted that Punjab's athletes are gearing up for the Paris Olympic Games, expressing confidence that Punjabi sportsmen will participate on a large scale in the upcoming Olympics.
