Mohali, March 18, 2024: Advocate Sunaina on behalf of her Mohali-based client Nikhil Thamman has sent a demand notice to Secretry, Minstry of Youth Affairs and Sports, seeking stoppage of any activity at I.S Bindra Cricket Stadium till the stadum gets clearance from the Forest and Wildlife.
"My client is a law student and perusing his studies fromUniversity Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), is final semester student in Panjab University Chandigarh, He is also RTI Activist and environment lover. As per some information under RTI Act 2005 from the 0/o Northern Regional Office, Chandigarh (Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Control) in connection with the projects, which are falling within the 10 kms from the boundary of Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary. And the Information which is revealed (copy attached with) is not only astonishing but a lot many things seem to be fishy in the departments who are responsible to not to stop the constructions which carried out constructions without taking required permissions from from NBWL as the project site falls within the 10KM radius from Sector 21, Bird Sanctuary Chandigarh and also falling within 10 kms from boundary of Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary. That here in this project i.e. International Cricket Stadium cum Sports Complex namely “IS Bindra Cricket Stadium” at Village Tira, illegal constructions have been carried out because responsible persons have not taken the wildlife clearance as well as clearances from the other concerned departments and this project is also under violation environment clearance and eco-sensitive zone boundary notification," the notice read.
