Surjit Women's Gold Hockey Tournament: Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala wins title by defeating Punjab XI

Jalandhar April 7, 2024: Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala won the first Surjit 5A Side Women's Gold Cup Hockey Tournament by defeating Punjab XI by a margin of 4-3 after a tough contest. Union Bank of India Mumbai beat Haryana XI with a margin of 12-5 and secured the third position.
Sukhdev Singh (AIG Group) distributed prizes to the winning teams of the tournament held at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium.
The winning team was awarded one lakh rupees in cash and the winner's trophy, the runner-up team was awarded with Rs. 75 thousand in cash and the runner-up trophy and the third place team was awarded with Rs. Olympian Navjot Kaur of the Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala team was declared the best player of the tournament, she was awarded the Mrs. Swadesh Chopra Memorial Trophy and Rs.11000 in cash. Punjab XI goalkeeper Kirandeep Kaur was adjudged the best goalkeeper of the tournament, awarded with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 11000.
In the final match, we got to see some intense hockey. Rail Coach Factory led 2-1 at half-time. For Rail Coach Factory, Aishwarya scored two goals and Manpreet Kaur and Gagandeep Kaur scored one goal each. While Sukhveer Kaur, Sumita and Mithali scored one goal each from Punjab.
In the semi-final played before the final match, Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala defeated Union Bank of India Mumbai by a margin of 7-4 to enter the final. Rail Coach Factory led 4-1 at half time. Aishwarya scored three goals while scoring a hat-trick for RCF.
In the second semi-final, Punjab XI defeated Haryana XI by 8-3 to enter the final. Punjab XI was leading 3-2 at half time. Sumita scored three goals while scoring a hat-trick for Punjab XI. Akanshka scored two goals for Punjab.
During today's matches Lakhwinderpal Singh Khaira, Rajan Kohli (Taika), LR Nair, Iqbal Singh Sandhu, Ranjit Singh Toot, Ranbir Singh Toot, Natha Singh Gakhal, Olympian Colonel Balbir Singh, Surinder Singh Bhapa, Prof Kripal Singh Matharu, Parveen Gupta, Ripudaman Kumar Singh, Ram Sharan, George Paul, Ram Pratap, Kuldeep Singh, Surjit Kaur, Narinderpal Singh Judge, Paramjit Singh, Harinder Singh Sangha, Gaurav Aggarwal, Sadhu Singh Khalour, Jaspal Singh Sarpanch, Gurmeet Singh Sidhu, Lakhbir Singh Khatra were specially present.
