Health Deptt celebrates World Hypertension Day

Ferozepur, May 18, 2024: World Hypertension Day was celebrated on Friday, in the District Hospital, Sub Divisional Hospital, Community Health Centers, Primary Health Centers and Health and Wellness Centers, said Civil Surgeon Dr. Meenakshi Abrol.
Every year, World Hypertension is celebrated across the world on May 17. The day is celebrated to spread awareness about hypertension, also called high blood pressure. The disease is also called slow poison, as it has multiple side effects and sometimes it comes without any symptoms.
Dr. Meenakshi Abrol said that hypertension is the main cause of various health problems like stroke, heart attack and kidney disease and it can also lead to dementia. Many people who suffer from hypertension do not know that they have the disease because it can sometimes have no symptoms, often known only after people have had a heart attack or stroke. The main objective of celebrating World Hypertension Day is to raise awareness among people about hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure. She said that by controlling blood pressure, we can live a healthy life for a long time. Its main objective is to create awareness about the importance of accurate measurement of blood pressure.
Mass Media Officer Sanjiv Sharma and Deputy Mass Media Officer Sandeep said that more than 30 per cent of the world's population, i.e. more than 1 billion of the world's population, is affected by hypertension. Hypertension is a growing problem in India and continues to cause a significant burden on the health system. Although there is no cure, using medications and making lifestyle changes can improve the quality of life. Important lifestyle changes, such as eating a well-balanced diet, reducing salt intake, not using alcohol, getting regular physical activity, managing stress, maintaining a healthy weight, not smoking, taking your medications correctly and following your doctor's advice, blood pressure can be controlled to a large extent.
Dr. Tarnpal, Urban Primary Health Center, Basti Tankan Wali. checked the blood pressure of the patients through a special camp and asked them to take morning and evening walks and food items including fibre-rich food to keep their blood pressure stable. On this occasion, SBS Nursing college students and teachers Gurdeep Kaur, staff nurse Sukhbir Kaur, and laboratory technician Simarjit were present.
