Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital: Anesthesia Review course (ARC)-PG Refresher Course 2024 concludes

Chandigarh, October 20, 2024: The highly anticipated Anesthesia Review course (ARC)-PG Refresher Course 2024, a two-day and a half day academic event was organized by the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, New Chandigarh (A unit of Tata Memorial Centre) on 18th ,19th and 20th October 2024.
Dr Sofia Jaswal was the organizing secretary and Prof. Dr Lalita Gouri Mitra, Officer in charge, was the course director.This was a comprehensive examination-based course for postgraduate students in Anesthesia.
ARC was initiated at Tata Memorial Centre Mumbai by Prof Vijaya Patil and Prof Atul Kulkarni 17 years ago and is one of the most sought-after PG review courses in the country.
Along with Dr Madhavi Shetmahajan and Dr Aparna Chatterjee, they not only guided the Punjab unit to curate this program but also participated as faculty in the teaching schedule of the course.
Over 40 renowned national faculty and teachers from AIIMS, PGIMER, GMCH Sector 32 , PGI Rohtak, IGMC Shimla, DMC Ludhiana, and various other medical colleges from Punjab, Haryana, J&K and Himachal were an integral part of this conference who took lectures and conducted hands on workshops for over 85 delegates.
Prof Dr Vijaya Patil, Head of the department at TMC, Mumbai, was the honorable Chief Guest and Prof Dr Sukhwinder Bajwa, Secretary ISA was the Guest of Honor. Both appreciated the hard work put in by the Punjab unit and hoped to see it become a center of excellence in the near future.
Dr. Ashish Gulia, Director, HBCH&RC, extended a warm welcome to the esteemed dignitaries and underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in pursuing academics to train highly skilled anesthetists.
He expressed his gratitude to academic institutions such as PGI Chandigarh and GMCH Sector 32 Chandigarh, for their guidance and collaboration, and thanked the administrations of Punjab and Chandigarh for their continued support.
During this course clinical cases and OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) based scenarios were discussed based on the MD and DNB curriculum. The delegates were taught how to approach a clinical case and the core concepts in anesthesiology were revised.
Multiple workshops were conducted daily in the post lunch session where the delegates were taught about the anesthesia workstation, vaporizers, airway devices, one lung ventilation, ultrasound and regional anesthesia They also got the opportunity to do hands on training in fiberoptic intubation and perform BCS/ ACLS, which enhanced their knowledge and skills as these workshops were engaging and interactive.
