Ferozepur, November 26, 2024: The Ferozepur Health Department is set to administer Albendazole tablets to children on November 28 as part of its De-Worming Day initiative. To ensure the campaign's success, a meeting was held today at the Civil Surgeon’s office with officials from the Education Department, Anganwadi Department, and School Health Teams.
An awareness poster was also unveiled by Dr Rajwinder Kaur, Civil Surgeon, during the meeting, attended by Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Sushma Thakur, District Immunization Officer Dr. Meenakshi Abrol, School Health Officer Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Dr. Jasleen Kaur, Dr. Saminder Kaur, and Dr. Yuvraj.
Dr. Rajwinder Kaur highlighted that the campaign aims to deworm approximately 238,097 children aged 1 to 19 years across 1,086 schools and 1,261 Anganwadi centers in the district. Rapid Response Teams have been formed to oversee the program and address any unforeseen issues during the drive.
The Civil Surgeon emphasized that intestinal worms contribute to anemia in children, adversely affecting their physical and mental development. She stressed the importance of maintaining hygiene, including proper handwashing before and after meals and after using the toilet, to prevent such infections.
District Mass Media Officer Sanjeev Sharma informed that De-Worming Day is observed twice a year by the Health Department. Children who miss the medication on November 28 will be covered on a mop-up day scheduled for December 5. He urged teachers, ICDS staff, and parents to actively support the campaign and ensure its success.
The initiative underscores the Health Department's commitment to enhancing children's health and development through regular deworming and public awareness efforts.
