Chandigarh, November 28, 2024: Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education and Research of Punjab Dr. Balbir Singh has announced that health checkup of students will be conducted in all government and aided schools of the state.
The Health Minister was participating as the Chief Guest at the state level function organized by the Health Department at the Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Tripri, Patiala today in connection with 'National Freedom from Stomach Worms Day'.
Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said that because the health of children is very important, on the orders of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan, to keep every child healthy, how much blood is in children, how much is their height and weight, and their eyesight should not be low. , this investigation will be conducted to find out.
He said that wherever there is any problem among the children, proper steps will be taken to correct it, because Rangla Punjab will be made only when the children are healthy.In an informal conversation with the media, Dr. Balbir Singh said that life skills and first aid training will also be provided to the students of eleventh and twelfth classes in schools and colleges along with health checkup of school students.
Apart from this, nursing students, medical intern students and students of degree colleges will also be made master trainers to prevent dengue and vector borne diseases, this will help in keeping people healthy. This time, due to the success of the War on Dengue campaign on Friday, the cases of dengue have reduced by 50 percent.
Dr. Balbir Singh said that children from 1 to 19 years of age suffer from many diseases and health problems due to stomach worms, therefore Albendazole tablets are given twice a year for awareness and treatment of stomach worms.
According to the Health Minister, as part of the Punjab government's goal of freeing all children from stomach worms, this medicine is being given to children today by celebrating National De-Warming Day and on December 5, Mop-up Day will also be celebrated. About 72 lakh tablets have been distributed to students in government, aided and private schools.
The health minister said that according to the survey of the World Health Organization, about 241 million children are affected by stomach worms and according to the survey of the Government of India, the number of these children in Punjab is about 39 percent. He said that stomach worms live in the intestines of their bodies. are and lay thousands of eggs every day. These eggs, when mixed with the soil by defecating in the open, infect others as well.
He said that dirty hands, walking with bare feet, also affects vegetables, water etc. and reaches other children and this leads to anemia, stomach pain, malnutrition, physical and mental weakness 5 stunted growth, School attendance may decrease etc.
Therefore, every child should keep their nails trimmed, keep their hands clean, do not sleep in the open, do not walk barefoot, drink boiled water, and always eat fruits and vegetables after washing them.
